Final arrangements are being made for the Stillwater Orchestra Weekend, which will bring to a close the 25-year career of Stillwater conductor James D. Hainlen with three public performances, including a Friday night roast and recital and two Saturday concerts featuring a collection of past and present students performing some of the group’s best-remembered pieces.
Tickets are now on sale. Order forms can be downloaded on this website or picked up at the Sutler’s Wines and Spirits, the Greater Stillwater Chamber of Commerce, Rose Floral, and in the vestibule of the Stillwater Public Library. Tickets will be sold in the order requests are received in the mail.
The Friday night roast and recital will intersperse short stories from the last three decades with solo performances by some of the Stillwater Orchestra's most accomplished alumni, including pianist Greg Anderson, violinists Erik Carlson and Marlena Chow, and trumpeter Dan Fretland. The recital will also include a solo violin performance by Steven Hainlen, Jim’s youngest son, who will graduate from Stillwater Area High School in May. Reserved advance purchase tickets are now SOLD OUT for the 7:30 performance. A limited number of general admission overflow and returned tickets will be available at the door one hour before each performance.
Saturday will feature two performances of the Orchestra Alumni Concert, in which alumni who graduated between 1980 and 2004 will perform past favorites such as Rimsky-Korsakov’s Capriccio Espagnol, and movements of Brahms’ Symphony No. 1 and Elgar’s Enigma Variations. (Click here for the complete concert order.) The concerts will be Jim’s last with the Stillwater Orchestra. (Reserved tickets for the 7:30 p.m. performance are sold out but tickets are still on sale for the 3 p.m. concert.)
Tickets to all events will be sold for $10 apiece, and proceeds from the events will be used to establish an endowment to benefit future District 834 orchestra students. Additional gifts to the fund, which will be administered by The Partnership Plan for Stillwater Area Schools, will also be accepted and appreciated.
All alumni, parents, and friends of the orchestra are welcome to attend the
recital, concert, and reception.
